National Gallery of Art

Noe Todorovich

One of my favorite places in Washington, DC is the National Gallery of Art. I particularly love the East Building. Beyond the amazing art, the architecture of the building itself is stunning.

The building recently reopened after a three-year renovation including creating additional gallery space and a lovely rooftop terrace with sculptures including the now famous "Hahn/Cock" by Katharina Fritsch on long-term loan from Glenstone. When I last visiting, the three towers each houses the following artists' works: Barbara Kruger, Alexander Calder, Mark Rothko, and Barnett Newman. Some of these exhibits will be limited time while others will rotate the works displayed or remain longer term.

I really enjoyed checking out the new digs during NGA Evenings at the Edge program where the museum stays open late with performances, music, and pop-up talks. (NOTE: One such night remains in April, so be sure to sign up if you haven't been yet...or if you have and want more!)

POW! WOW! is a global art movement that is currently bringing together local and international artists in Washington, DC. My friend, Farrah, led a Walk With Locals tour of some of the mural sites on Friday. I brought along a Fuji Instax camera and had just enough film for a shot (or two) of each of the sites we saw. While I love taking and seeing photos of these murals, I have to say... the pictures don't quite do it justice. If you have a chance, you definitely want to see these for yourself in person.

Royal Canadian Air Force Fly Over DC

Noe Todorovich

I saw a post on Twitter last week regarding the Royal Canadian Air Force flying over the Washington, DC area on May 24 so I marked my calendar. Good thing I did too because I completely forgot until about 11 am this morning. After looking at the flight map, I decided to head to Gravelly Point since that was supposed to be a good spot and I had not been there yet myself. Here are some pics from the fly over and my leisurely 5 mile stroll.

Sunset at Theodore Roosevelt Island

Noe Todorovich

This past weekend, I headed over to Theodore Roosevelt Island for a photo shoot. It was such a lovely evening that after we finished, I decided to stick around for sunset and wander around by myself to take some pictures. I love how beautiful, quiet and diverse the terrain of the island is, while being right across the Potomac from the hustle and bustle of the Georgetown waterfront. It's one of my safe havens.

2015 Cherry Blossoms

Noe Todorovich

Cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basinand the throngs of people they attractare a quintessential spring experience in Washington, DC. I went every year when I first moved to the area in 2004, but started to fall out of it a bit due to the crowds over the last few years. The weather has been too beautiful this year not to take advantage, so I ventured over to the Tidal Basin myself on Monday. It was charming and lovely as ever.
